Installation
The biggest mistake people make when installing a non-conductive underground line is that they don't consider a tracer system at all.
Our advice for tracer system installation.

Be sure to have an access point for hooking locator leads onto the tracer wire. Burying the end of the tracer wire with your utility completely defeats the purpose of installing it.

If there is no ground at the far end of the wire then a good locate is difficult to achieve. Learning how a cable locator works prior to installing a tracer system is well worth your time.

Secure the wire to your underground structure in regular intervals. If the wire is strung out throughout the trench, locating an exact point in the system isn't likely, plus it can throw off locator signals resulting in mismarked lines.

The quality of your tracer wire matters. Hardware store wire won't hold up for long when used in direct bury scenarios. Moisture and minerals in the soil break down the sheathing fairly fast, leaving you with a tracer system good for only a couple of years. Our advice is, order actual tracer wire which is meant for the job.
